Do Not Buy Solar Panels Before Checking this out!! -How to Choose the Best Solar Panel!!
Hello, I am Viv, Solar Master’s founder and Director. In early 2006 I completed a Master’s in Electrical engineering from UWS (University of Western Sydney) and have studied Bachelors in Electronics Engineering, I have been always fascinated by renewable energy products and upcoming new technology which are making a Big Difference to the World.
Since the completion of my study, I have been working with Australia’s top leading companies in the energy and solar industry and have gained vast experience and knowledge. Over the years, I have helped thousands of Australian families and businesses by giving them the right solution based on their energy need to maximize ROI for every dollar spent and by sharing a few of my views to help others. Below is the one
Most asked question before buying solar- Which Solar Panels are the Best?
Customers are Confused about which panels are best as every retailer advises their products are the best!!!
Let me make the choice easier for you.
5 important things to look for before purchasing solar panels
- Tier 1 Rated Manufacturer (Top Bankable Brands)
It’s very important solar panel manufacturers you choose are there for you for the lifespan of the product. Tier 1 rated Module suppliers who are always in the Top 5 with financial & Bankability scores AAA, AA and A are Jinko, Longi, Canadian, First solar, JA and Trina.
- Module Efficiency
Measurement in the percentage of sunlight that hits your panel converted into electricity. The higher the efficiency rating, the better-Quality Silicone cells are used. Gives more production with less space
and number of modules thus less system loss. The best solar module has module efficiency between 20 – 23% which you can find in the Modules datasheet.
- Degradation Rate (Longer Lifespan with more Output)
Solar panels degrade because of Extreme weather conditions, wear and tear over time from exposure to UV rays. Most of the well-known modules have degradation nearby 0.5% every year. Recently Jinko and Sun power have some Groundbreaking lowest degradation achieved close to 0.4%.
- Product/Performance Warranty with Local Support
25-year Performance and 12-15 years on product warranty are very common in the current market. But recently many suppliers have increased product warranty up to 20-25 years and performance warranty 25 -40 years as well, it doesn’t mean the product with longer warranty are the better ones as many manufacturers I have noticed they simply increased the warranty from 12 to 25 years without changing anything in Product so we will give little less weight on it and Honestly I doubt with History if someone has tested their panel for 25 years in Australia with our extreme weather condition.
- Temperature Coefficient
Measurement of Power or production loss with Temperature. At STC (Standard Temperature Condition) which is 25°C Most of the panels have a close temperature coefficient of 0.35%.
In simple terms 1°C above 25 °C, a panel will lose 0.35% efficiency
if you are leaving in Australia where temperatures reach nearly 40°C your panel will lose 5.25% Efficiency
Other things to look for,
Ensure Module suppliers have their head offices in major states with good support staff, Retailers you buy the system from are local and can be trusted for after-service.
